WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Perkins provides that there shall be a general City election held on the date established by the general election laws of the State of Oklahoma, or in the absence of such legislation, by ordinance; and

WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 303 provides that a general City election shall be held on the first Tuesday of April unless otherwise preempted by the general election laws of the State of Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Perkins provides that the term of office of those persons chosen in 2015 to the positions of Commissioner No. 1 and Commissioner No. 3 shall expire following the 2018 General Municipal election; and

WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Perkins provides that in 2003 and every third year thereafter, Commissioner No. 1 and Commissioner No. 3 shall be elected for a term of three (3) years; and

WHEREAS, under and by virtue of the authority vested in the Board of Commissioners of the City of Perkins by the Constitution and laws of the State of Oklahoma, and by the Charter of the City of Perkins, Payne County, State of Oklahoma, the City Commission of said city is authorized to call and hold elections for the office of Commissioner.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Commission of the City of Perkins, Oklahoma, does hereby declare, proclaim, and call an election to be held in the City of Perkins, Payne County, State of Oklahoma, as herein set forth.

GENERAL ELECTION: A nonpartisan General Election with the candidate receiving the highest number of votes being elected shall be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, for the purposes of electing an individual candidate for the following office:

1. One member of the Board of Commissioners from Ward No. 1, designated as Commissioner No. 1, to be elected by the City at large to serve a term of three (3) years.

2. One member of the Board of Commissioners from Ward No. 3, designated as Commissioner No. 3, to be elected by the City at large to serve a term of three (3) years

FILING: Any qualified person may have his/her name placed on the ballot for the General Election as a candidate for the above-named offices by filing a sworn statement of his/her candidacy (a copy of such statement is attached hereto) with the Secretary of the Payne County Election Board on February 5, 6, or 7, 2018.

REGISTERED QUALIFIED VOTERS: Only voters residing in the City of Perkins who have the qualifications prescribed for voters by the Perkins City Charter, the Constitution and the laws of the State of Oklahoma, and who are registered as required by law, may vote in the General Election.
